Welcome to the Lodge of Amity
Our registered number, 137, is very special to the members of the Lodge of Amity. Such a low number indicates that we are a very old Lodge, in fact the oldest in Dorset. We are very proud of our history and our traditions, feeling very privileged to be able to continue these into the modern era. We were formed in 1765, before the USA! We have complete records of all our activities since then, together with some unique items of furniture and fittings that are actively involved in our meetings. Our Lodge history includes some unusual and surprising anecdotes; from tales of seafaring members captured and released during the Napoleonic Wars to members' involvement in the formation of Lodges in Canada: all part of the rich background of the Lodge of Amity.
This does not mean we are behind the times. We may meet in a Listed building, but we have the latest facilities, including wi-fi, and have undergone a major modernisation programme in 2018. Our caterers are generally thought to be among the best . . .and our four course meals are excellent value!
Our members are of various ages, drawn from all walks of life and a wide range of occupations. Where else would you meet such a diverse range of people meeting happily to share friendship, camaraderie and each other's experiences?
Our aim is to enjoy good company, raise some money for charity in the process and physically help good causes in our area. We meet once a month, on the third Wednesday, at 18:15 in the Poole Masonic Hall. This is situated in the heart of old Poole, close to the Dear Hay Lane car park.
Amity means 'friendship'. We firmly believe that we live up to our name and would always welcome new members and visiting Masons who can join us and judge for themselves !
