Provincial Grand Lodge of Dorset

The official website of Dorset Freemasonry

How to join

Membership is open to any man over the age of 18 irrespective of their race or religion. In Dorset, we have 49 Lodges, with students able to join our University Scheme Lodge.

Women can join one of two female-only Grand Lodges: The Order of Women Freemasons and Freemasonry for Women.

If you don't know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to contact us by email.

When we get your message, we will ask you for a few details which we will forward to your local Lodge. They will then get in touch with you, and can tell you more about Freemasonry and answer your questions.

London Haven Lodge is the University Scheme Lodge in Dorset for those who are or have been part of Bournemouth University either as an undergraduate, postgraduate, senior member of the university and alumni, ranging in age from 18 upwards.

London Haven have now joined over 70 other Lodges around England and Wales who are already part of this very successful scheme; you can contact them directly by email!

A Charter for persons applying to become Dorset Freemasons

Within 48 hours of you making first contact
One of our Provincial Membership Officers will contact you and share a link to a web page which asks a few questions. This will give a little more information to help you start to make an informed decision on joining us.

Within seven days of you answering those questions
A Provincial Membership Officer will telephone you to discuss (informally) your interest in Freemasonry. He will take some more details from you for the purposes of finding the right Lodge for you.

Within the next 48 hours
The Membership Officer will pass your details to a Lodge.

Within the next seven days
The Lodge will contact you. They will get to know you and have informal meetings, perhaps overcoffee or at a social event if you wish.

Within six months of your first contact
You will be invited to attend a slightly more formal meeting with members of the Lodge. This is likely to be held at a Freemasons' Hall where the Lodge normally meets. This is nothing to worry about; it allows you to ask questions and for you to get an appreciation of its members. A Provincial Membership Officer will talk things through prior to the meeting and will accompany you to the Lodge.

Within twelve months of your first contact
You will be formally initiated into the Lodge of your choosing where the rest of your Masonic Journey will continue.

If we fail to meet these standards
The timeframes shown are the maximum you should expect from us. If things go wrong or there is an unacceptable delay you can contact the Provincial Membership Officer by emailing membershipenquiries@dorsetfreemasonry.info
You will receive a response within 48 hours.

If you do not receive a response from the Provincial Membership Officer contact the Provincial Grand Secretary prgsec@dorsetfreemasonry.info. The Provincial Grand Secretary will contact you within 24 hours.
