300 years of Freemasonry
On Sunday 25th June our Worshipful Master, Roger Knight was among the congregation of around 350 people who attended a service of celebration and thanksgiving to mark the Tercentenary of the First Grand Lodge of English Freemasons which was held at The Abbey Church of St Mary the Virgin, Sherborne. The congregation was made up of Freemason, family and friends and it was lovely to see the Abbey so full of happy, smiling faces. The service had a truly celebratory and thankful feel to it and the singing was bolstered by the attendance of the Bournemouth Male Voice Choir who also gave us their rendition of the Anthem, Non Nobis Dominie.
After the Service, Roger joined the rest of what we call 'the ruling master' of each Lodge ( the current master of the lodge), Grand and Provincial Officers who then formed up behind the excellent Sherborne Town Band who led us as we proceeded to march through the Town to the Digby Church Hall where we enjoyed light refreshments accompanied by beautiful music from a string quartet. This was the first time in around ninety years that Freemasons had paraded through Sherborne in full regalia/uniform and so for many was a 'once in a lifetime event'.
There are numerous photos and even videos of the Parade on Social Media and Roger has already received an expression of interest about Freemasonry from a Sherborne business man who he will be happy to meet and discuss Freemasonry and what it is we do and stand for.
Well done to all involved.
